The weekend is upon us. For my little bronies, there’s BronyCon in NYC. For everyone else, last-minute preparations for the Fourth of July next week. And of course, nearly all of us in the United States are burning under high double- and triple-digit temps (or just high and really high double-digits for those who use Celsius).
No matter. It’s Friday.

Once upon a time, I thought I was the only fashion blogger of any sort in my fair city. Then I came upon Danielle of Lou What Wear.
Today, I can add another Louisville-based blogger to the list: Taylor of CoverGirl + Converse, a blogger who is new to the world of fashion blogging, having begun her journey in March of this year. Make the jump to learn more about this self-described “fashion obsessor” as she explains how she finally decided to take up the cause, her advice on life, and her suggestions on where to go for shopping, dining et al in Louisville.

Name of Blog: CoverGirl + Converse
Date of Founding: 19 March 2012
A Short Description of Your Blog: CoverGirl + Converse is a fashion/beauty/lifestyle blog where I share inspiration concerning my personal style and snippets of my obsessions: all things vintage, bold new trends, delicious recipes, appealing interiors, and much more.
How did you find your way into fashion blogging?
Taylor: I have always loved browsing around on and stalking various fashion blogs, and one day I finally took the plunge and created one myself, along with my good friend from Peonies & Ballet Flats!
What is the story behind the name of your blog?
Taylor: The name of this blog was inspired to emphasize both beauty and fashion. This blog really is about all things girl, and I felt that CoverGirl makeup and Converse shoes are two girly items that put all the inspiring content for my blog into words!
You describe yourself with the phrases “fashion obsessor,” “vintage applier” and “inspiration giver.” What do those three phrases mean to you, and how do they show through in your blog?
Taylor: That first description is a given for any fashion blogger; if you want to blog about fashion, you must be completely and utterly obsessed (which I am completely). I love discovering/trying new trends and sharing them with others, and blogging gives me a perfect opportunity to do so.
As for “vintage applier,” this simply means that I adore all things vintage, and I love to apply old-fashion tidbits to my daily style!
The last one is pretty self-explanatory: I search for inspiration everywhere, and I believe it can be found anywhere! The inspiration I discover is the inspiration I give throughout posts in my blog.
Part of the basis of your blog’s founding was that you “stalked” other fashion blogs, taking inspiration from them. Which blogs have influenced you the most, and how?
Taylor: Oh, this is a tough one. There are so many of them, but I believe the ones which have inspired me most are {long distance loving}, Classic & Glam Blog, The Short and the Sweet of It, and Peonies & Ballet Flats.
Kentucky isn’t known for its fashion outside of the fascinator/big hat culture found during the Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby. If any of my readers were to visit our commonwealth, what should they know about us in regards to our culture and style, as well as recommendations for lodging, dining, shopping et al?
Taylor: You are so right that Kentucky isn’t known for it’s high fashion taste. However, I live in Louisville, and it is filled with historical locations such as vintage fashion boutiques, restaurants along the shores of the Ohio River, and an abundance of lodging. My favorite clothing shop in the downtown area that cannot be found anywhere else is Nitty Griity, which is an adorable shop for vintage clothing. The Old Spaghetti Factory is a fabulous place to dine, and if you come to Louisville you must stay in either The Brown Hotel or the Galt House! These are all exquisite locations that I personally adore.
What has been your favourite moment as a fashion blogger?Taylor: Oh goodness… honestly, I have enjoyed each and every moment of fashion blogging. I know that sounds really cliché, but it’s so true! I love putting together posts, and it overjoys me to see new comments or to discover that someone new has become a member of my blog. I just love it all!
Why do you blog?
Taylor: I blog not only to record inspiration for myself, but to share encouragement with others, whether it concerns style, beauty, or just life in general. And honestly, I really enjoy blogging in and of itself, audience or not! I am a natural born writer, so I guess that’s why. :)
What one piece of advice would you offer my readers regarding…
Style: Yves Saint Laurent puts it best: “Dressing is a way of life.” This is one of my favorite quotes, and I agree with this statement whole-heartedly. Let your style portray who you are, don’t simply follow the trend! Be unique and reflect the individuality you were born with.
Writing (blogging, journalism et al): Nowadays, anyone can be a fashion blogger. So often I see posts that look the exact same, nothing unique! Don’t be afraid to step out of the normal routine of fashion blogging and share unique posts! Readers like posts that are personal, helpful, different, and appealing to the eye. I always keep this in mind when I write!
Life in general: Hmm… I could say so many things here. A relationship with Jesus Christ is key to true, lasting joy. Love much, laugh often, and live to the fullest. Don’t get sidetracked by people who are not on track. And lastly, here is a quote that is truly inspiring:
“When you have come to the edge of all light that you know and are about to drop off into the darkness of the unknown, faith is knowing one of two things will happen: there will be something solid to stand on, or you will be taught to fly.”
Who is your blog for?
Taylor: Anyone (specifically girls) seeking daily inspiration concerning fashion, beauty, food, photography, and life in general.
Any final words?
Taylor: Thank you so much for having me! It was truly a pleasure to participate in this questionnaire. Happy blogging, all! I hope to see you over at CoverGirl + Converse soon!
