Music Monday – 19 December 2011

As the saying goes, “Is it live… or is it Memorex?” Okay. Maybe I’m the only one who knows that saying, but you know what? We’ll do it live anyway!

Music Monday

In the spirit of giving, this week’s playlist is a mish-mash of live performances from television and other arenas, all to help put an extra spring in your day. Make the jump to see what I chose this week. Bring earplugs.

“Drôle de vie” – Jenifer, Alizée, Lorie and Chimene Badi: In this performance from TF1′s Amimicalement, the four French pop songstresses perform this cover by Eli & Lila, whose lyrics describe how funny life can be.

“Get Back in Line” – Motörhead: Another live one, this time featuring Lemmy & Co. on Conan from earlier this year performing their first single off their latest opus, The World is Yours. A fitting anthem for our times.

“Danger! High Voltage!” – Electric Six: This one’s not just live but a live wire, as Detroit’s Electric Six deliver a “high-wattage” performance of their biggest hit during an episode of Jools Holland from 2003.

“Can’t Get You Out of My Head” – Kylie Minogue: Seems I’m not the only who loves mashups; Kylie performed her signature song on tour in 2002 having infused it with New Order’s “Blue Monday,” a trick Rihanna would use a few years later with the Manchester quartet laughing all the way to the bank.

“Hung Up” – Madonna: Finally, Madonna goes metal during this 2009 performance of the song during her Sticky & Sweet Tour, including a breakdown in the form of “A New Level” from Pantera’s 1992 masterpiece, Vulgar Display of Power.
